DEA-007: 6- Days Rift valley Lakes/ Mara

Explore the scenic lakes of the Great Rift Valley on the hunt for hippos, crocodiles and flocks of pink flamingos, and in the Masai Mara stalk the Big 5.

Day 1, Lake Baringo
From Nairobi we pause to view the spectacular Rift Valley from the top of an escarpment, dotted with its string of lakes, that is a great introduction to the natural beauty of the region. Camp next to freshwater Lake Baringo where there is the option of taking a boat trip to search for hippo and crocodile and view the abundant birdlife around the lake shore.

Day 2, Lake Bogoria
/Nakuru
From Baringo it's a short drive to Lake Bogoria, a shallow soda lake set amidst beautiful scenery. Like the other Kenyan soda lakes, it has no outlet and the intense evaporation leads to high levels of salt and minerals, which flamingos love and from a distance the surface of the water appears bright pink. Next to the lake are steaming hot springs and geysers, but don't be tempted to put your hands into the water if you are at all fond of your skin! Continue south to Lake Nakuru National Park, another shallow soda lake famous for its birdlife, and the park is also home to lion, many
rhino and if you're very lucky you may spot a leopard in an Acacia tree. Overnight at a campsite

Day 3 Maasai Mara:

We head south to Narok, Lunch enroute then proceed to Maasai Mara -game is viewed as we
proceed to the campsite for dinner and overnight.

Day 4& 5, Masai Mara

From our campsite, we explore the mighty Masai Mara on game drives and there is plenty of opportunity to search for the Big 5. You'll soon see why the Mara has such an excellent reputation for diverse scenery and abundant wildlife. The park has the largest population of well-fed lion in Kenya, and some of the biggest crocs in Africa are found in the Mara River - all thanks to the constant supply of ready-made meals in the way of hundreds of thousands of grazing animals.

Day 6, Narok, Nairobi

Morning game drive then return to the campsite for breakfast .We drive back through the Masai town of Narok and stop for some souvenir shopping, before continuing across the plains to Nairobi where the safari ends.

DEA-008: 7 DAYS SAMBURU/LAKES/MARA

The Big 5, stunning Great Rift Valley lakes, and the scenic scrubland of Samburu - this safari gives a great insight into Kenya's diverse landscapes.

Day 1, Samburu Game Reserve
From Nairobi, pass the majestic Mt. Kenya en route to the open savannah of Samburu Game Reserve. We camp in the narrow stretch of palms and woodland by the Ewaso Nyiro River which provides water for the animals and some relief from the equatorial sun.

Day 2, Samburu Game Reserve

Enjoy a full day of game viewing along the river banks and surrounding scrublands with time out from the midday sun for a refreshing swim at Buffalo Springs. This is a particularly good place to spot elephant and antelope.

Day 3, Lake Baringo, Great Rift Valley

Leaving Samburu, cross the Lerochi Plateau and descend to the floor of the Great Rift Valley, arriving at Lake Baringo by early afternoon. This fresh water lake supports an abundance of birdlife alongside hippos and crocodiles that languish on the lake shore.

Day 4, Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru
At the nearby Lake Bogoria visit an area of bubbling hot springs and steaming geysers, and admire the pink swathes of flamingos on the soda lake. Then at Lake Nakuru National Park enjoy an afternoon game drive, where we literally trip over the many rhino in the park, and if lucky might see a pride of lion languishing in the shade, or leopard in the Acacia trees.

Day 5 - 6, Masai Mara
Travel south through the beautiful savannahs and plains of the Rift Valley and reach our base camp site, where we enjoy another evening out bush under the far-reaching African sky. Spend the next day on game drives exploring the Masai Mara. The open grasslands are home to incredibly rich and varied wildlife and the awesome, annual migration of millions of wildebeest and antelope is the highlight of any visit to Africa from July to September.
