KENYA CAMPING SAFARIS
Kenya Camping safaris are designed for those in search of a real adventure, joining safari for who enjoy the unpredictable wilderness. On safaris you are expected to help with the camp chores. Your meals will be prepared by our expert safaris cook over wood fires. Those who join are from all walks of life and nationalities usually between 16 and 60 years. Age however is not the criteria all that's needed is a sense of humor, a willingness to participate and a spirit of adventure.
The expedition is in a purposely-built Land Cruizer/truck, this rugged 1,600 km safari to vanishing Africa tackles some of Africa’s worst roads, crosses dusty deserts and high mountains and takes you to the sparkling waters of the Jade Sea Lake Turkana.
DEA 11: 09 Days Turkana Expedition, Rift Desert Altitude.
Day 1 : Nairobi - Lake Baringo
Leave Nairobi in the morning stopping at the top of the world to view the great Rift Valley. Lunch at Nakuru and arrive at Lake Baringo late afternoon. Watch out for hippo while you shower. Overnight at the campsite or similar.
Day 2: Lake Baringo - South Horr
Climb out of the Rift Valley in the morning head towards Maralal and the red-ochred Samburu people, who are still nomadic and proud. Then another spectacular climb up Losiolo and down past Baragoi to South Horr where we camp next to a small clear stream.
Day 3: South Horr - Lake Turkana [LOIYANGALANI]
Break early in the morning for Lake Turkana. The rough road gets worse as we descend across ancient lava flows towards the Jade Sea and the Oasis Loiyangalani lying between the lake and Mt. Kulal. We arrive at our permanent beach campsite just outside Loiyangalani soon after lunch and settle in our Oasis Lodge / traditional Turkana huts with a cool breeze blowing from the lake. Indeed a perfect place to relax protected from scorching sun and heat characteristic of the harsh climate of this remote area.
Day 4: Lake Turkana [LOIYANGALANI]
We spend the day relaxing and bathing only interrupted by a short boat excursion to visit the surrounding areas where crocodiles and birds may be spotted. In addition, we visit Loiyangalani and the community settled there while in the evening we may visit one of the Turkana Manyattas for traditional dances under a star studded sky at an extra cost if clients wish. Unforgettable experience. Overnight at the Oasis Lodge.
After breakfast visit the El-Molo village and back to the campsite for lunch. Rest in the afternoon and go for fishing or swimming if crocodiles permit. Meals and overnight in your camp.
Day 5: Turkana – Maralal
After breakfast Leave Lake Turkana to Maralal with a picnic lunch enroute. Dinner and overnight in Maralal.
Day 6: Maralal
Drive to Suguta Valley observation point and later you descend to the bottom of the valley where you have a trekking with Samburu guides to visit their villages and the surrounding environs (4 –5 hrs) and return to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Maralal – Samburu National Reserve
After break fast drive to Samburu National Reserve to the Northern side of mount Kenya. Arrive at the camp before you proceed for an evening game drive. Meals and overnight in the camp.
Day 8 Samburu National Reserve
Full day in Samburu viewing animals like Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras, Lions Leopards, Gerenuk, Oryx, and other animals and bird species. Overnight in camp.
Day 9: Samburu – Nairobi- Departure
After early morning game drive leave Samburu via Mt. Kenya to arrive in Nairobi in the evening.
