Day 1: Nairobi – Sweetwaters Sanctuary
Met on arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, briefed by a Destination East Africa representative and drive through the lush Kikuyu farmlands and coffee plantation to the cool Kenyan highlands to arrive at the Sweetwaters Tented Camp/similar. Lunch at the Camp and at 1600hrs; enjoy an afternoon game drive within the reserve,Sweetwaters is 20,000 acres of privately owned wilderness in the heart of the Laikipia area of Kenya. The landscape is mainly open grassy plains, thorny thickets and acacia woodland. The Uaso Nyiro river runs through the reserve and there are a number of waterholes and dams. The reserve has a network of tracks for game drives allowing visitors to explore the reserve and to see a wide variety of wildlife species. Sweetwaters is noted for its black rhino and elephant, hippo, lion, giraffe, zebra, eland, warthog, oryx, impala, gazelles as well as many other species may be seen. As this is a private reserve there are fewer visitors than in the main national parks, offering a more exclusive wildlife experience,which has also a private sanctuary for chimpanzees and rhinos. Dinner and overnight at Sweewaters Tented camp.
Day 2: Sweetwaters - Aberdares National Park
Depart after breakfast and proceed south to the Aberdare Country Club. The club is the base hotel for your tree hotel-The Ark. Lunch at the club. At 1430hrs; transfer to the Ark which is located in the Aberdare National Park, with small overnight bags as most of the luggage is left at the club. The Ark has various decks and balconies for easy viewing and photography of wild game. Dinner and overnight of game viewing at the lodge.
Day 3: Aberdares – Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, transfer back to the base hotel to retrieve rest of your luggage and drive Southwards with a brief stop at the stunning Thompson’s falls. At Thomson’s Falls, the Ewaso Narok River drops a sheer 243 feet over a ledge of volcanic rock, to create these magnificent falls, located in the southern west corner of Laikipia, at the northern foot of the Aberdare range. The Falls attract colourful birds and provide good photographic opportunities. A nature trail at the base of the falls and through the gorge, is a safe haven for the endangered Colobus monkeys, baboons and small animals. Proceed towards the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park arriving in time for Lunch. At 1600hrs, enjoy an afternoon game drive in park that also takes you to the shores of the lake famous for its birdlife especially flamingos that form a pink hue across the lake. Dinner and overnight at the Lake Nakuru lodge.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru – Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Depart Nakuru after breakfast and drive through the floor of the Rift Valley to the world famous Masai Mara game reserve, arriving at Keekorok Lodge / Similar in time for lunch. At 1600hrs enjoy an afternoon game drive in the reserve. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 5: Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Full day in the reserve with both morning and afternoon game drives at 0630hrs and 1600hrs respectively. The Mara is the northern extension of the Serengeti and its rolling plains are home to hundreds of plains game together with predators that feed on them. All meals and overnight at Keekorok Lodge / Similar.
Day 6: Maasai Mara - Nairobi - Departure
Depart the Mara after breakfast and drive back to Nairobi arriving early afternoon. Lunch at the famous Carnivore restaurant, justifiably referred to as Africa’s Greatest Eating Experience, having twice been voted amongst the worlds 50 best restaurants by UK based Restaurant magazine. Drop off at Jomo Kenyatta international Airport for your flight back home.
